Germain Hagenbach is an internationally distinguished manager from the mineral oil industry. His last active management position was that of the Senior vice-president Marketing and Technique at TOTAL Lubrifiants in Paris. Before his transfer to Paris, Germain Hagenbach was the general manager of ELF Oil Deutschland GmbH in Berlin. For around nine years, he was responsible for all of ELF Oil’s operational and developmental activities in Germany (with the exception of ELF-brand service stations) as well as for the ELF fuel depots. He began his activities in Germany immediately after the take-over of the MINOL conglomerate by ELF Aquitaine and played a large role in the integration of MINOL into the ELF group. During the last few years of his work in Berlin, Germain Hagenbach was also chairman of the Club des Affaires, the German-French business club.
Before his redeployment back to Germany, Germain Hagenbach was the managing director of ELF Marine Lubricants for many years, where he built up a network of dealerships under a production and operational licence and thereby made ELF one of the world’s leading companies in the marine lubricant market. Germain Hagenbach started his career with ELF as the technical manager of the of the corporation’s own research centre in Lyon, where he was, in the 1980s, responsible for, among other things, the development of international release of STYRELF, a polymer-modified asphalt, with generated significant sales revenues for ELF Aquitaine in the following years. From his work in research and development, Germain Hagenbach is the holder of various patents.
Germain Hagenbach holds a diploma of engineering from the Grande École d’Ingénieurs Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon as well as an executive MBA from the Institut de Contrôle de Gestion, Lyon. Furthermore, he completed his doctorate degree (Dr. Ing.) at the École Nationale Supérieure du Pétrole et des Moteurs.
